ड़ ṛa: The fifteenth letter of the Hindūstānī alphabet. Its sound differs from that of ر r by being uttered with the tip of the tongue turned upwards towards the roof of the mouth; and closely resembles that of ḍa, with which it is often interchanged. In reckoning by abjadit counts 200, the same as re.. It rarely (in Hindī never) occurs as the first letter of a word, there being, so far as we have been able to discover, only one solitary vocable under this class.
