će or ćīm (in Urdū); च ća (in Hindī). The eighth letter of the Hindūstānī, and the twentieth letter (or the sixth consonant) of the Nāgarī alphabet (the first of the second or palatal class of consonants).. It has the simple sound of ch in cherry. In Urdū or Hindūstānīit is also called jīm-ě-fārsīand jīm-ě-`ajamī, 'the Persian jīm' (since the letter does not occur in Arabic). The numerical value of the letter, according to the abjad, is the same as that of jīm, viz. 3:—ća-kār, s.m. The letter or the sound ća.
