लाक्षा lākshā, s.f. The red animal dye called 'lac';—the insect which produces lac (it is analogous to the cochinealinsect, and, like it, forms, when dried and prepared, a dye of a red colour; its nest is formed of a resinous substance which is used as sealing-wax, and is called shell-lac, vulg.shellac):—lākshā-prasādan, s.m. The red Lodh-tree (from the bark of which an astringent infusion is prepared which is used to fix colour in dyeing):—lākshā-taru, s.m.=lākshā-vr̤iksh, q.v.:—lākshā-gir (for lākshā-gr̤ih), s.m.
