عیوق

’aiyūq, s.m. The star Capella, the bright star (a) upon the left shoulder of Auriga.غ g̠ain (called g̠ain-ě-mojama, or g̠ain-ě-manqūt̤a), the twenty-fifth letter of the Urdū alphabet (the twenty-second of the Persian, and the nineteenth of the Arabic).. It is a guttural gaccompanied by a grating sound as in gargling, of which there is no example in English;—the Northumbrian r, and the French ringrasséyéare approximations to it.. It occurs chiefly in Persian and Arabic words; but it is also found in some Hindūstānīwords, in which it takes the place of an original ग g, or घ gh.. It has no corresponding character in the DevaNāgarī alphabet; and hence, when it occurs in words borrowed from the Persian or Arabic, it is usually represented by ग़ g̠. Its numerical value (according to abjad) is 1000.
