girift, vulg. giraft[v.n. fr. giriftan; Pehl. griftan; rt. Zend garew= S. मभ् ], s.f. Taking, seizure, capture;—a handle, catch, grasp, hold, clutch;—an objection; criticism:—girift karnā(-par), To seize (on), to take exception (to); to make (a deed, etc.) a handle (against); to make (an act, etc.) a ground of offence, or a crime (against); to lay hold of (an act) to the detriment (of a person).
