गाटा gāṭā= H گاتہ gāṭa[prob. S. मन्य+कः], s.f. The yoking of bullocks together (for the purpose of treading out grain, etc.);—a Brāhman or Baniyāwho forms an illicit connection with a woman;—a piece of land, a plot, a field; a division of a village;—(s. मिथतः) adj. (f. -ī), Obdurate; stubborn, self-willed, pigheaded, mulish:—gāṭā-bandī, s.f. The division of a village by gāṭās; a kind of tenure under which the fields of individual proprietors are not found in juxtaposition, but scattered through many villages:—gāṭe-wār, adj. According to gāṭās;—s.f.(?) The division of a village according to gāṭās (=gāṭa-bandī).
