gāf (ग ga), the twenty-ninth letter of the Hindūstānīalphabet, and the twenty-sixth of the Persian, called kāf-ě-’ajamī, 'the Persian kāf' (it being unknown in the Arabic). Its sound is that of gin go. In Hindīthe corresponding letter is ग ga (the third consonant of the Nāgarī alphabet, and the third letter of the ka-vargor guttural class). Its numeral value, according to the abjad, is the same as that of ك ka:—ga-kār, s.m. The letter or the sound ga.
