चांदनी ćāṅdnī[ćāṅd+Prk. अिलआ=S. अ+र+इका; or S. चिन्िका], s.f. Moonlight, moonbeam;—a kind of white flower, Tabernæmontana coronaria;—a white cloth spread over a carpet; an awning, a canopy or cope; anything white and shining:—ćāṅdnī-ćāṅd, s.m. An epithet of the moon:—ćāṅdnī-ćauk, s.m. A wide and public street or market:—ćāṅdnī ćhiṭaknā, v.n. The moonlight to be bright:—ćāṅdnī-rāt, s.f. A moonlight night:—ćāṅdnī-karaṇ, s.m. The practice of Brahmans and others wounding themselves in order to extort alms or the payment of a debt:—ćāṅdnīkhilnā, v.n.=ćāṅdnī ćhiṭaknā, q.v.:—ćāṅdnīmār-jānā(-ko), To be moon-struck, to be paralyzed from a stroke of the moon (a horse).
