चालीसा ćālīsā[the preceding+S. कं], s.m. The fortieth year of any era, or of the century; an aggregate of forty; a period of forty days; a quarantine;—a hero or winner of forty fights;—the great famine (in India) of 1783 (Sambat 1840);—a dimness of sight which is supposed to come on at forty years of age (and often to be removed on approaching the fortyeighth or fiftieth year);—adj. Numbering forty years.
