फेरना phernā[pher˚= Prk. फेर(इ) or फेरे(इ)=S. पयȶ (ित), rt. इwith पिर], v.t. To turn, twist, bend; to turn round, whirl, twirl; to turn back, turn away, reject, send back; to return, give back, restore, refund; to turn one (from, or against, -kīt̤araf-se); to bring or draw one (over to one's side, -kīt̤araf); to turn over, invert, reverse, turn inside out; to alter, change; to turn aside, ward off, avert; to go over again, repeat, revise; to move (the hand) backwards and for wards (over), pass (the hand, etc. over, -par), to feel, to stroke, fondle, caress (the word hāthbeing expressed, e.g. us-par hāth phero); to pass (a brush, colour, etc. over, -par), to colour, whitewash, plaster (rang, etc. being expressed, e.g. us-par rang phero); to make (a horse, etc.) walk backwards and forwards;—to practise evasion, to double, shift, shuffle; to pervert, distort, or torture (another's words); to contradict (oneself):—pher denā(intens. of phernā), v.t. To return, restore, refund; to send back, etc.:—pher-lenā, v.t. To take back; to withdraw; to reclaim; to walk (a horse, etc.) backwards and forwards; to bring (one round) or over (to one's side, kīt̤araf).
