पाना pānā[vā˚= pāw˚= Prk. पाव(इ)=S. ूाप्नो(ित), rt. ू+आप् ], v.t. To get, acquire, receive, obtain, attain, accept, reach; to pick up, earn, gain, reap; to procure, secure; to overtake, to come upon, meet with, encounter; to enjoy, experience, undergo, suffer, feel;—s.m. Getting, finding, etc.;—dues, outstandings:—(pānā, in Acquisitives—i.e. when annexedto an inflected infinitive or a verbal base—is neuter, and signifies 'to be allowed'; 'to get permission'; 'to get' to do a thing; 'to be able' to do; e.g. woh dekhne pāyā, 'he was allowed to see,' or 'he got to see,' etc.; we ān-pāye, 'they were permitted to come,' etc.; bāt aise dhīraj-se kar ki wah na sun-pāwe, 'Speak so softly that he be not able to hear';—hone pānā, 'To let be or happen'; kisījīv-ko pīṛāna hone-pāwe, 'Let pain be occasioned to no living thing').
