वैƭ vaidya (fr. veda), adj. & s.m. Relating or belonging to the Vedas; conformable to the Vedas, Vedic; conversant with the Vedas;—relating to medicine; practising medicine; medical;—a follower of the Veda; one well versed in the Vedas, a Panḍit, a learned man, doctor;—a man of the medical caste (originally the offspring of a Brāhmaṇby a Vaiśya woman); a medical man, physician (i.q. baid; syn. ḥakīm):—vaidya-nāth, s.m. 'Lord of physicians'; epithet of Śiva;—and of Dhanvantarī(chief physician in the court of Indra):—name of a poet;—and of a country.
