وندهیہ

िवन्ध्य vindhya, s.m. Name of a range of mountains connecting the northern extremities of the Western and Eastern Ghāṭs, and separating Hindūstān proper from the Dakkhan (it marks the southern boundary of the sacred land of the Hindūs);—a hunter:—vindhyāṭavī(˚ya+aṭ˚), s.f. The great Vindhya forest (which appears to have spread, at one time, from near Mathurāto the Narmadā):—vindhyā-ćakr (vindhyā= vindhya), s.m. Name of a place of Hindūpilgrimage in the Vindhya mountains;—a triangle:—vindhyāćal (˚ya+ać˚), or vindhya-parvat, s.m. The Vindhya range of mountains:—vindhyāvalī(˚ya+āv˚), s.f. The wife of the Asur Bali:—vindhyāvalī-putr, or vindhyāvalī-sut, s.m. 'Son of Vindhyāvalī,' name of the Asur Vāṇ:—vindhya-kshetr, s.m., or vindhya-vāsinī, vulg. vindhyā-vāsinī, s.f. Name of Durgā;—a village and temple sacred to Durgā(under the forms of Yog-māyāand Bhogmāyā), situated about three miles from Mirzapur on the Ganges (it is a place of great resort).
