hayūlā, or haiyūlā(for A. ي ه ی و لَ hayūlā, fr. the Gr. ὕλη), s.m. Matter; first principle (of everything material);—firstsketch (of a picture, etc.);—appearance;—(met.) an unformed child;—an unpolished person, 'an unlicked cub.'
