haikal (prob. a Semitic word;—A. also haikal), s.f. Figure, image, face, form, stature or shape (of the body), appearance, person;—(in A. and P.) an idol-temple;—a palace, a stately edifice;—(in Urdū& P.;—H. also हैकलor हैंकल), an amulet or talisman inscribed with magic figures (hung round the neck or the body, as a defence against fascination or misfortune); a necklace of rupees or gold-mohurs (syn. hamel).
