हौंस hauṅs, (dialec.) होंस hoṅs, or हंस ूhūṅs (prob. corr. fr. hawas, q.v.;—but cf. khuns), s.f. Desire, wish; longing, eagerness;—inordinate desire, lust; cupidity, covetousness, greed;—ambition;—envy;—an evil eye:—hauṅs karnā(-kī), To desire eagerly, to long (for); to lust (after);—to vie (with), to rival; to imitate:—hūṅs lagnā, To be under the influence of an evil eye.
