nawāz (fr. nawāḵẖtan; see nawāḵẖta), part. adj. & n. of ag., Caressing, soothing; cherishing;—playing (on a musical instrument), performing;—one who caresses, or soothes; cherisher;—player, performer (used as last member of compounds, e.g. banda-nawāz, 'cherisher of slaves or servants'; barbat̤-nawāz, 'player on the lute');—s.m. Caress; blandishment, etc. (i.q. nawāzish, q.v.).
