िनवार् ण nir-vāṇ, vulg. nir-bāṇ, part. adj. (f. -ā), Extinguished (as a fire, etc.); lost, disappeared, extinct;—liberated from existence, dead, deceased;—(S. nir-vāṇam), s.m. Becoming extinguished; disappearance, extinction; dissolution, death;—final emancipation from matter and from the necessity for further transmigration, and reunion with the Supreme Spirit, eternal bliss;—(with Buddhists and Jains) absolute extinction, annihilation.
