नान्दीor नांदी nāndī, vulg. nāṅdī, s.f. Joy; satisfaction:—prosperity, increase, growth;—eulogium, or praise (of a deity, or a king), a prayer recited in benedictory verses at the opening of a religious ceremony, or the commencement of a dramatic representation, etc.:—nāṅdī-mukh, or nāṅdī-śrāddh, s.m. A śrāddhor commemorative offering to the manes preliminary to any festive occasion (as initiation, marriage, etc., in which nine balls of meat are offered to the deceased father, paternal grandfather, and great-grandfather; to the maternal grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather; and to the mother, paternal grandmother, and paternal greatgrandmother).
