nā`ib (act. part. of ناب (for نوب ) 'to supply the place (of another)'), s.m. A substitute, deputy, delegate, locum-tenens, assistant, lieutenant, viceroy, vicegerent:—nā`ib-dīwān, s.m. Deputy treasurer or accountant:—nā`ib-munshī, s.m. Assistant writer, under-clerk:—nā`ib-manāb, s.m. A locum-tenens, vicegerent; successor:—nā`ibmunīb, A deputy and his chief.
