mu’allim (act. part. of علّم 'to teach,' etc.), s.m. A teacher, tutor, instructor, preceptor, master; the pilot, or the mate (of a ship,—in the barbarous dialect of the 'lascars' called mālim, or malim);—mu’allam (pass. part. of the same verb), part. Taught, instructed; trained, disciplined;—s.m. A learner, student, pupil:—mu’allim-garī, s.f.=mu’allimī, q.v.
