खाखर khākhar (prob. =khaṛ-khaṛ; see khaṛkhaṛānā), s.m. A kind of rattle used in breaking in a horse (it is formed of a small board, shaped somewhat like a bleacher's beetle or mall, on each side of the flat part of which three or four rows of rattles are fixed and suspended; by an occasional shake of this, one of the horsebreaker's assistants who follows the horse with it in hand, helps to break in the horse, and to give him his proper paces).
