कड़आ ु kaṛu`ā, or कड़वा kaṛwā, or कड़वा ु kaṛuwā[Prk. कडओ ु S. कटकः ु ], adj. (f. -ī), Bitter; acrid; pungent; sharp; saline, brackish; unpleasant, disagreeable; harsh; strong; virulent; coarse; hard (of heart, etc.); impetuous, hot (temper); brave; sour, morose; angry, displeased;—s.m. Myrrh:—kaṛwā-tel, s.m. Oil made from mustard seed, mustardoil:—kaṛwādil karnā, To harden the heart; to have a brave heart; to bear or suffer meekly:—kaṛwā-zahr, or kaṛwā-nīm, adj. Bitter as gall:—kaṛwākarnā(-ko), To embitter; to harden;—to give or to expend unwillingly:—kaṛwā-kasailā(or kaselā), adj. (f. -ī), Bitter and astringent; hard and cruel, adverse;—kaṛwekasaile din, Hard and cruel times, evil days:—kaṛwālagnā(-ko), To taste bitter, or acrid, or pungent, etc.; to be disagreeable, or displeasing, or offensive (to):—kaṛwāhonāor ho-jānā, v.n.
