कड़ा kaṛā, vulg. kaṛṛā[S. ककर्रः; or Prk. कड्डओ=S. कƴ+कः], adj. (f. -ī), Hard, stiff, tight, firm, rigid; tough; strong, powerful; hardy, vigorous; firm, resolute, unbending, obdurate; harsh, stern, severe, austere, morose; violent, vehement; rigorous; difficult, painful, grievous, distressing; scarce; dear, highpriced;—arch, sly, knowing, penetrating;—kaṛākarnā, v.t. To harden, to make tough; to stiffen, to tighten; to make strong (as tea, wine, etc.); to raise (the price of a thing); to embolden, encourage, etc.:—kaṛīuṭhānā, or kaṛījhelnā, v.n.
