كوٹھی

कोठी koṭhī[Prk. कोिट्ठआ; S. कोƵ+इका], s.f. A granary, a barn; a large vessel of unbaked earth, or a large oblong bamboo basket (in which grain is kept), a bin, chest; a storehouse; warehouse; a factory; a treasury; banking-house, bank; a mercantile house or firm; a house built of brick or stone, mansion, dwelling, residence; a chamber, compartment, cell (of the body, etc.); the womb; hold or capacity (of a ship, or cart, etc.); chamber (of a gun, or a pipe, etc.); ferule or mounting (at the end of a scabbard); a circular piece of wood placed at the bottom of a well (to prevent the sand from moving, or as a foundation for the masonry lining), the inside shaft (of a well), a curb:—koṭhībaiṭhnāor baiṭh-jānā, A house to fall in; a mercantile house, or a bank, to fail; the shaft (of a well) to be fixed in its place:—koṭhīkarnā, or koṭhīkholnā. To set up or start a factory, or a mercantile business; to open a bank:—koṭhīgalānā, To sink a shaft, or a curb (in a well):—koṭhī-wāl, s.m. A warehouse keeper; a wholesale merchant; a banker.
