qutb (v.n. fr. قطب 'to collect, to draw together,' etc.), s.m. The polar star, the north pole;—a centre round which anything revolves; the iron spindle of a millstone; an axis; a pivot;—a prince, lord, chief;—a title or degree of rank among religious mendicants:—qutb-ě-janūbī, s.m. The antartic or south pole:—qutb-ě-shimālī, The arctic or north pole:—qutb-ě-samā, or qutb-ě-samāwī, The axis of heaven; the celestial pole:—qutb-numā, s.m. A magnetic compass.
