qǒrān (inf. n. of قرا 'to read'), s.m. The sacred book of the Muḥammadans, the Qorān (or Korān, Coran, or Alcoran):—qǒrān uṭhānā, To raise the Qorān (to swear), to take an oath on the Qorān:—qǒrān-par hāth dharnāor rakhnā, To place the hand on the Qorān (to swear by), to swear on the Qorān:—qǒrān ṭhanḍākarnā, To let the Qorān fall or drop (he who drops the Qorān must give its weight of corn as alms to the poor):—qǒrān-ḵẖẉān, s.m. A reader of the Qorān;—a person deposed from rule or dignity, one who is dismissed from office, etc.:—qǒrān sir-par rakhnā, 'To place the Qorān on the head,' to swear on the Qorān:—qǒrān-kājāma pahannā, 'To wear a garment made of the leaves of the Qorān'; to become the Qorān itself;—to swear excessively; to take an oath on the most trivial occasion:—qorān-kādaur karnā, To go or read through the Qorān; to repeat the Qorān (to one another, two or more people).
