tūtī(for tūtī), s.f. A parrot, paroquet;—the small singing bird Loxia rosea, or Carpodacus erythrinus;—(met.) a sweettongued or eloquent speaker:—tūtībulwānāor bulwā-lenā(apnī), 'To cause (one's) tūtīto sing'; to acquire fame, get a name:—tūtībolnā(-kisīkī), 'The tūtī(of anyone) to be singing'; to be in good repute; to gain the ear (of one in authority); to be winning golden opinions; to acquire influence or authority:—tūtī-ke-se hoh mal-ālā(-kisī-ke), To rub or twist the parrot-like lips (of one,—a phrase used by way of an affectionate or friendly admonition).
