shafī`(v.n. fr. شفع ; see shafā`at, and shuf`a), s.m. Intercessor; advocate, patron;—a possessor of the right of preemption, one who demands and obtains, as a neighbour (or a partner), the right of purchasing a house, or a piece of land, that is to be sold:—shafī`-ě-jār, s.m. The occupant of ground which is simply in the neighbourhood of another estate:—shafī`-ě-alīt, s.m. The occupant of ground in actual contact, or intermixed with, another estate (the right of pre-emption is stronger in the latter than in the former case).
