शर śara, vulg. śar, s.m. A sort of reed or grass, Saccharum sara, a reed; a tube; an arrow, a shaft; (in Math.) the versed sine of an arc;—the upper part or cream of slightly curdled milk;—water;—the swell of the tide:—śarāsan (˚ra+as˚), s.m. Arrow-shooting, arrowshooter, bow:—śar-mall, s.m. 'Arrow-fighter'; an archer, bowman;—name of a small bird, Turdus gosalica (considered as a variety of the Mainā):—śar-van, vulg. sar-ban, s.m. A thicket of reeds; name of a forest near mount Kailās in the Himālayas.
