saiyid, vulg. saiyad, said (v.n. fr. سود ), s.m. A lord, ohief, prince;—any descendant of Mohammad, (esp.) a descendant of Husain (who was the grandson of Moham mad):—the second of the four classes into which Mohamma dans are divided; an in dividual of that class:—saiyidu' l-bashar, 'Prince of mortals,' i.e. Mohammad:—saiyidu' l-mursalīn yāambiyā, 'Chief of the apostles, or prophets,' Mohammad:—saiyid-zāda, adj. & s.m. Born of a Saiyid;—a Saiyid's son.
