सीता sītā, s.f. The track of a ploughshare, a furrow; husbandry; spirituous liquor;—name of the daughter of king Janak and wife of Rāmćandra;—name of the deity (wife of Indra) presiding over fruits (cf. siyā`ū); name of Lakshmī; of Umā; of one of the fabulous branches of the Ganges:—sītā-pati, s.m. 'Husband of Sītā,' epithet of the hero Rāmćandra:—sītā-phal, s.m. 'Sītā's fruit,' the custard-apple, Annona squamosa; the sweet pumpkin or squash-gourd:—sītā-birć, s.m. corr. of sītā-vr̤iksh, q.v.:—sītā-rām, Sītāand Rām (a kind of ejaculatory invocation much used by devotees):—sītā-ramaṇ, or sītā-rawan, s.m.
