samā`at (for A. سماعة , inf. n. of سمع 'to hear'), s.f. Hearing, the sense of hearing; hearing or taking evidence (in a law-suit, etc.), cognizance:—samā`at karnā(-kī), To hear, to take evidence (in a suit), to try (a case), to entertain or take cognizance (of a complaint):—samā`at-ke qābil, adj. Worthy or deserving of a hearing, admissible, cognizable (a suit).
