sarkār (for sar-ě-kār), s.m. Chief, master, lord; superintendent, supervisor, overseer, agent; landlord;—(in Bengal) a billcollector;—a respectful title (given to a person absent or present), your Honour, your Worship, his Honour, etc.;—s.f. Court (of a king); government, ruling authority;—dignity, state, pomp;—estate, property; (in Bengal) the subdivision of a ṣūba, a district comprehending several parganas:—sarkār-darbār, s.m.
