सावनी sāvanī[Prk. साविणआ; S. ौावण+इका], s.f. The day of full moon in the month Sāwan; the harvest of Sāwan, the ḵẖarīfor autumn harvest; the rejoicings of the month of Sāwan (in which the scattered members of a family assemble under the paternal roof, and presents are interchanged between families where an engagement is pending); sweetmeats and fruits, etc. presented by the bridegroom (or by the parents) to the bride in Sāwan; the ceremony of presenting afiancéewith the materials for a swing (as coloured poles, ropes, etc.) in the month Sāwan; the materials for a swing which are presented to a fiancéein Sāwan.
