सांपा sāṅpā[S. शाप+कः], s.m. Mourning or chanting dirges (over the dead), mourning, wailing, weeping; a passing bell;—condolence:—sāṅpe jānā, v.n. To make a visit of condolence (to one), to condole (with):—sāṅpākarnā(-kā), To mourn or bewail the death (of):—sāṅpe-kītīyal, s.f. A suit of mourning;—holiday suit, best suit:—lāhaurīsāṅpā, s.m. A long mourning (so called because the Khatrīwomen of the Panjāb mourn for their dead for long periods).
