zaqqūm, vulg. zaqūm (v.n. fr. زقم 'to eat quickly,' etc.), s.m. An infernal tree (mentioned in the Qor`ān), the fruit of which is supposed to resemble the heads of devils and terrible serpents;—a prickly plant, cactus, Euphorbia antiquorum (?).
