रज raj[S. रजः], s.m. (f. in Urdū), Impurity, dirt, dust, powder; sand; pollen, farina (of flowers); the menstrual excretion, menses;—the quality or property of passion, sexual passion; the second of the three inherent natural qualities (guṇ) of living beings (=rajoguṇ): it predominates in air, and is active, urgent, and variable; it produces sensual desire, worldly coveting, pride, and falsehood, and is the cause of vice and of pain):—raj-manḍit, adj. Covered with dust:—raj-vīrya, s.m. Menstrual excretion; semen virile.
