धरणी dharaṇī, धरिण dharaṇi, and H. धरनी dharnī, s.f. The earth, globe; earth, soil, land, ground;—a beam:—dharnī-dhar, s.m. lit. 'Bearing or sustaining the earth'; an epithet of Śesh-nāg, the serpent which is said to uphold the earth;—an epithet of Vishnu in the form of a tortoise and a boar;—a mountain:—dharaṇī-sutā, s.f. 'Daughter of the earth,' an epithet of Sītāwife of Rāma (as produced from the soil by Janaka when he was ploughing a spot to prepare it for sacrifice):—dharnī-kand, s.m. An esculent root or bulb.
