धरना dharnā(i.q. dharnā, as above), s.m. The act of sitting in restraint at the door of a debtor, by the creditor or his agent, to enforce the payment of a debt; sitting doggedly and fasting at the door of a temple, etc., to extort favours from the idol, etc., or to obtain compliance with some demand:—dharnābaiṭhnā, dhaṛnādenā, v.n. To enforce payment of a debt or compliance with a demand by sitting (or seating an agent) doggedly at the debtor's door; to extort favours from an idol, etc. by sitting doggedly and fasting at the door of a temple, etc.
