दािरि dāridra, vulg. dāridr[S. दािरũयं, fr. दिरि], s.m. Poverty, indigence, wretchedness:—dāridr khednā, 'Driving out poverty'; a superstition or religious ceremony observed on the morning of the Dīwālīfestival (a sieve or winnowing basket is beaten in every corner of the house, with the words īshvar paiṭho, dāridr niklo, 'Enter, O God; depart, O Poverty').
