ḵẖut̤abā, s.m. pl. (of ḵẖat̤īb), Preachers. A P خطبہ ḵẖut̤ba (for A. خطبة ḵẖut̤bat, fem.; v.n. fr. خطب 'to recite'), s.m. A discourse, sermon, oration, or harangue which the ḵẖat̤ībor preacher recites on the pulpit in the noonservice of the congregational mosque on Friday (it consists of expressions of praise to God, exhortation, blessings on Mohammad and his family and companions, and prayer for the Mohammadans in general, and especially for the reigning sovereign):—ḵẖut̤ba-ḵẖwān, s.m. Reciter of a ḵẖut̤ba (see ḵẖat̤īb).
