ḵẖān[Pehl. ahu; Zend aṅhu; S. asu; cf. also S. svāmin], s.m. orig. 'Master, owner'; lord, prince, a title of Mohammadan nobles (especially of those of Mogal or Paṭhāndescent); a common adjunct of Afg̠ānor Paṭhānnames (the title of ḵẖān, or ḵẖān-ṣāḥib, is also applied to native physicians, musicians, etc.);—the head-man or chief of several villages:—ḵẖān-ḵẖānān, s.m.
