ḥalqa (for A. حلقة ḥalqat, fem.; v.n. fr. حلق 'to shave'), s.m. A circle, a ring, hoop, link, loop, button-hole; the collar (of harness); a company (of people), assembly, fraternity; a circle, a circuit (of a village, etc.); a boundary line which includes all the lands and dwellings of a village or hamlet; knocker (of a door);—a kind of firework:—ḥalqa bāṅdhnā(-kā), To form a circle or ring;—to encompass, surround; to besiege:—ḥalqa ba-gosh, s.m. lit. 'Having a ring in the ear' (as a badge of servitude); a slave:—ḥalqa ba-goshī, s.f. Servitude, slavery:—ḥalqa-bandī, s.f. Arrangement of villages in circles or groups (for village accountants, schools, etc.); a concentric division of villages, etc.; of or pertaining to such an arrangement of villages, etc.:—ḥalqazan, s.m. Knocking (at a door).
