जेठ jeṭh [Prk. जेट्ठो; S. ज्येƵः], adj. & s.m. Eldest, eldest-born, oldest, very old; head, chief, etc. (=jeṭhā, q.v.);—an elder brother; a husband's elder brother;—a professional wrestler, a champion wrestler (jaṭṭhī, jeṭhī);—the second Hindūmonth, the month MayJune:—jethāṅśā, jeṭh-aṅs, s.m., jeṭh-aṅsī, s.f. The eldest brother's share; the right of the eldest son (to a larger portion of the patrimonial property than his brothers), the right of primogeniture; the best share:—jeṭh ra`īyat, s.m. Head villager, chief man of a village.
