ज्योितस् jyotis (used chiefly in comp., and changeable to jyotish and jyotir), s.f. Light, brilliance, splendour, etc. (=jyoṭi, q.v.):—jyotiś-ćakra, s.m. 'Circle of the luminaries,' the zodiac:—jyotir-gan, s.m.The heavenly bodies collectively:—jyotish-mān, adj. Luminous, brilliant, radiant, splendid, resplendent, glorious; heavenly, celestial:—jyotir-may, adj. Consisting of light, brilliant, abounding with stars, starry:—jyotir-vettā, An astrologer, one who casts nativities (syn. gaṇak):—jyotī-rath (i.e. jyotis+rath), s.m. The pole-star.
