जूहर jūhar, जोहर johar जौहर jauhar [S. जीव+हरः, rt. ǿ], s.m. (Obs.), Taking one's own life, committing suicide;—fighting desperately to the death:—jūhar (or jauhar) karnā, To kill oneself together with wife and children. (When the Rājpūts are attacked by an overwhelming force, they sometimes slaughter or burn their wives and children, and then sell their lives dearly on the field of battle.)
