takfīr[inf. n. ii of كفر 'to cover, to hide; to be ungrateful,' etc.], s.f. Covering; expiating a crime, doing penance or paying a mulct as atonement (for); humbling oneself before another (putting the hand upon the breast and inclining the head), shewing distant respect;—accusing (one) of infidelity or impiety, calling (one) an infidel; making (one) an unbeliever; guiltiness.
