बै स bais [S. वैँय], s.m. The third of the four Hindūcastes; a man of that caste (whose chief duties are agriculture and trade; hence) agriculturist; trader;—name of a tribe of Rājpūts:—bais-wāṛā(S. vaiśyā+vāṭika), s.m. The residence of Bais (a prince of the bais tribe); the nativity of Bais. (The province of Baiswāṛāis situated in Oudh, and is so named from a tribe of Rājpūts named Bais who formerly resided there. A prince of the tribe formerly reigned at Dunḍiyā-khera, and his dominions extended over a great part of the province of Oudh, on the north bank of the Ganges).
