भुस bhus [S. बुष], s.m. Husk (of com), straw; chaff, bran:—bhus uṛānā, v.n. To make the chaff fly; to beat one to pieces, make mincemeat of;—to lament, mourn, bewail (as the Shī`as do in Moḥarram):—bhus bharānāor bharwānā, v.n. To cause to be filled or stuffed with straw; to flay (a person), and fill the skin with straw and burn it (an oriental mode of punishment):—bhus bharnā(-meṅ), To fill or stuff with straw, chaff, or or bran:—bhus-par barāt, s.f. lit. 'Assignment on chaff'; an assignment from which nothing can be obtained, a valueless assignment.
